Customer Reviews
I just bought this recently from this seller for about $50 less. Really nice microwave - has so much power that I find I need to reduce the power level for lots of things and if I don't, the time is greatly reduced. Burned popcorn almost immediately at high heat.
Very tough, very sleek looking, but huge. Keep in mind when buying to have a large space for it. It doesn't bother me, but my husband thinks it is too big and we have a large kitchen with lots of counter space.
I have had one of these units for about four years and it is well out of its one year warranty. While it worked, I was happy with it.
Last night the door release mechanism broke so I had to use a screwdriver to force the door open before throwing it away. I replaced it with a unit I bought at Sears for one fourth the price - probably less than the repair of the four year old failed unit. If the Sears one breaks, no problem. I got a three year extended waranty and the total was still about one third the price of this unit.
While I understand nothing works forever, at this price, I do not believe the unit should have failed in this way so soon. I suspect, but do not know, the door release mechanism that failed is plastic. If so, it certainly worked in my case though I would consider this an unforgivable planned-obsolescence design.
I personally will never buy any KitchenAid product again. Do yourself a favor and shop around. Maybe you will find something that costs one fourth as much and lasts half as long - saving you half the price when it fails.
