Customer Reviews

Bought this based on Consumer Reports' recommendations, installed and have been using this microwave for about 5 months. So far, the microwave has been exceptional in every single way.
PROS -
Heating - uniform and quick, just like you would expect.
Defrost - we defrosted cheese from the freezer, which usually crystallizes, and have to say, it came out pretty good. Not as good as if you just bought it, but much better than any other microwave defrosting that we've ever seen.
Ventilation - the pull out vent seemed like a gimmick, but that extra half a foot seems to make a big difference as it literally pulls the smoke away from the oven's front burners. A very nice feature.
Controls - pretty straightforward, although the more advanced features are something that we will have to get used to.
Light - this microwave has two lights on either side of the stove rather than one light with two bulbs in the middle. The lights are slightly angled so that they illuminate the entire stovetop quite well. A very well conceived design.
CONS -
Handle - we had gotten used to the push button opening of the old microwave, and pulling a handle to open the door took us awhile to get used to.
All in all, have to report as being quite pleased with this microwave that we purchased off Amazon. The price was good and this, so far, has been a very nice replacement for our crappy Panasonic over the range microwave that died about two seconds after the 5 year warranty expired.
Best of luck with your shopping and your purchase.

I originally picked this microwave because it had all the features I was looking for; powerful vent fan, multiple cooktop lights with dual level selection, extend-a-vent, and more. I almost didn't buy it because none of the product literature available, even on the LG website indicated that the unit could be externally vented. I finally had to do a random search for the installation guide for this model and found a third party website that collects this type of literature. There in the installation manual were instructions for roof, or through the wall venting.
Separately, I searched LG's website and found where others had asked the same question. I found several places that people were told units could not be vented to the exterior, when a search of install manuals indicated they could. I even challenged them on this model as they stated it could not, and was given their list of external vent models, this one not included. I am happy to say that it is installed in my kitchen, and despite LG's lack of assistance, is vented to the exterior.
One word of advice as I'm an electrician; put this microwave on a 20 amp dedicated circuit. It will not work on the (usually) 15 amp light circuit that fed the vent-hood if that is what you are replacing. It pulls too much juice. It might work on a "shared" 20 amp circuit from the kitchen as long as no other large loads are on the same one. I did change the 30W light bulbs that came from the factory with 40W as was allowed by the manual. it was more like a 50% change in brightness than 25%!
There was also conflicting info about the magnetron warranty. some places said five, others ten. according to the warranty card that came with the unit it is ten.
Overall, I am very happy with this model. I have had it for a little over a week and have cooked under it, and cooked with it and it performs beautifully.
